How to enter Ukraine?

Summary of information on the website of the Ukraine Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

Citizens from some countries can enter Ukraine with a valid passport, but WITHOUT a visa

Citizens from some countries can enter Ukraine with a valid passport, but without a visa: for a period of not more than 90 days or for transit to other countries. Countries for whose nationals this rule applies:

ALL the member countries of the European Union: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece. Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands. Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden.

Andorra, Holy See, Monaco, Norway, Liechtenstein, San Marino, Switzerland

USA, Canada, Japan.

Citizens from some other countries can enter Ukraine in even a more simple way

For citizens of some other countries, “identity and citizenship proving documents” are enough to enter Ukraine. Countries for whose citizens this rule applies, are: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation, Uzbekistan.

Citizens from ALL other countries need a valid passport and visa!

If you do not have a passport or identity document from one of the countries listed above, you will need a valid passport and visa, as far as I know. If you want to check which rules apply to you, check the website of a Ukrainian embassy that works for your country. Look for your country at this list on the website of the Ukraine MFA. After clicking at the name of your country, you will find the website and the physical address of the embassy you need.

After coming at the website of the embassy you need, click first at the left main menu: ‘consular issues’. From there, click at ‘visa requirements’.

If you are a national from one country, but staying in another country, contact the Ukrainian embassy or consulate which is closest to you.

If you have difficulties getting a visa: consider the option of so-called ‘tourist visa’. Perhaps this can work if you go to some travel agency and buy some hotel vouchers for your first night upon arrival in Ukraine. I have the impression that this is the least complicated way to get the visa you need.
